carmel apple pop

jhase/face
the flea market was so amazing last sunday, i bought this vintage scrap of lace fabric with sewing instructions written on it. i think it was the perfect addition to my sewn felt drawing. on monday jhase and i went to woodcraft in santa rosa and i bought some flaky oak veneer and cut arms out of it.
today i went to the studio before speech class and tried to work on my painting skills. i still suck, but i'm getting much better with blending colors and keeping things simple.
as i type jhase is recoding a banjo track and using the sounds of his cell phone keys as a backing beat, it sounds way too good.

i don't need protection.

i worked all day sewing this on a crappy piece of felt with a half broken sewing machine.... tomorrow i will paint it and make it look all fancy. jhase and i have promised each other to wake up in time to get to the Alamany flea market tomorrow morning in search of some gorgeous little things and hopefully a birthday gift for a special friend of mine. lately i've been listening to these 1920s compilations and i seem to only be interested in that time period. today i tried on a scarf from a 1907 Ali BaBa costume, if i had twenty extra bucks i would defiantly buy it.

sewing projects

i got a free canvas bag from Mendel's with their name on it, but i don't advertise for free, so i made a cute felt house to cover it up.
Here is the vintage marching band outfit i altered by putting Egyptian sixties fabric over the school name and adding buttons and trimming. i love it, but i feel like a goof when i'm wearing it in public and playing my golden kazoo. At open studios everyone thought i was dressed up as the Queen of Hearts!

mommy & me

we carved potato halves into simple shapes and inked them up...
I made a flower with pressed Ginko leaves to put on the cover of my journal.
my mother being silly.
We picked up some used pillow cases at Thrift Town and used the leaves on them.

my potato stamp design...

Open Studios Opening Reception

Friday night from 6-10 Blue Studios had an opening that Miss Molly Meng and I were a part of. This is our studio space before everybody came and ate all the Humboldt Fog cheese.
i have a giant baby head!
of course they put my piece next to a ginormous beautiful painting...
our studio was so home-like, i'm really happy how everything turned out, and i actually sold two pieces!

the wall piece Jhase & i made is finally up! and there is the back of my marching band outfit.

Thank you to everyone who came. be sure to stop by today and sunday for the actual open studios (11am-6pm).

NEXT WEEKEND:

Next weekend is open studios, which I have been looking forward to since May. On Friday the 17th all the artists are having an opening reception, not sure on the time, maybe 7-11pm. Free foods and drinks, come on by and then meet us at Uptown for an after party.

i'm turning myself into a demon

Today i rode my moped all around town and worked on art and drank a lot of Red Bull. Basically i am really good at neglecting my responsibilities...
here is a poem i wrote for Jhase last week when i was being a meanie:

canceled words in things you say,

mountains drop and go away.

thoughts stand still but never climb,

chopping wood and losing time.

tell me once and kiss me twice,

stubborn streets can hurt like knives.

split the coals that burned so bright,

cement moons turn left not right.

truth lies deep within our bones,

foggy nests we can’t call home.

cold roads lead through rows of pain,

hitchhikers gold is to stay sane.

Art For Sale

In two weeks I will be selling all this and more at Open Studios... Most of the art I'm selling will be under $100 bucks and all the proceeds will go to keeping the art studio and possibly some money will help feed my Red Bull addiction.

Dirtbag Challenge 2008

With great honor and a lack of hard work I have climbed my way through the ranks of dirtbags and have been chosen, and accept my entry, into the dirtbag challenge of 2008. I now have 1 month to build a motorcycle that does nothing but cause trouble, costs under $1000 and isn't a Harley. My bike is going to be a 1983 Honda V65 Sabre 1100, with bodywork made out of road signs, shopping cart handlebars, chopped, ect... For more info visit http://www.dirtbagchallenge.com/

Dolores Park

The truth is, people who live in SF don't actually work or have jobs, we actually spend most of the time partying naked in the park. This is my favorite park to do so, Dolores park. Be carefull though, Knife fighting happens daily..

"i'm sorry" is finally up on the wall in the studio.

DANGER

"Danger" Olympus XA, Fuji rvp50. click through for full size.

There are a few things that come to mind when I try to remember New Mexico.Ghosts, weird locals, strange spirits, a general state of wonder and confusion from days melting in to one another like a pre-recorded psychedelic sitcom. Here it is in a Photograph.

in the studio

here is a picture of the studio Lyric took a month or so ago. I miss her ever so much. That was on Dirndl Day, everyone though we were waitresses.
