let's stick together

I started my first semester at San Francisco State University last week and I absolutely love it. I changed my major to Art with an emphasis on Education and decided to take Art for Children. All of the sudden I'm interested in kids and wondering what's going on in their freshly molded minds...
I'm extremely inspired by Henry Darger illustrations and Egon Schiele's somewhat provocative portraits of young children...

This is my first attempt in a few years at oil painting. i love to paint but i did this whole piece with a $.99 brush from Flax. I really hope i get into the Painting 1 course at SFSU this semester because i need some guidance.

Tamale Party

my cousin Marina sent me her dad's famous vegetarian tamale recipe and Jhase and i decided to give it a try. we spent the last of our money on supplies and ended up making over two dozen cheesy tamales .... but now i am 100% sick of them and i am willing to trade for other food and/or money.

sweet november

this month has been one of the most stressful times in my entire life. money is so tight that i had to give up my art studio and move my stuff back to our apartment. i'm trying to decorate the apartment now that i'll be here all the time. above is the wall space above my dresser.
i took the banners from our yearbook installation and put them in out hallway, eventually i am going to hang them up in golden gate park.
i'm still learning to draw with the sewing machine, this time i did it on a paper collage with colored antique thread.

and here is the (kinda) finished piecet from the last post. i'm going to start switching to a different type of canvas now... anywho we're still alive, living off organic coffee and thanksgiving leftovers.

jewelry

i have been obsessed with wearing jewelry that is slightly larger than it should be. so tonight i made this necklace out of a vintage 60's napkin of Victorian flats and psychedelic flowers, a small antique picture frame and a very sturdy chain. i love it so much, and you can change out the image and the chain!

how's it made

i enjoy sewing more than i enjoy drinking a can of Red Bull through a red liquorice straw!

felt v. canvas

so i am officially fed up with sewing on felt! i found an old canvas drop cloth in the bottom of my closet and i decided to use that instead. to my surprise it was much smoother and made it a bit harder to handle, but much easier to paint. i plan on getting a fur pelt to sew on the bottom and add some wood figures and stuff to the sides and top...
